SAM Therapy

Technology in service of health

SAM Therapy is integrated into healthcare institutions to support relaxation, rehabilitation, and mental health support therapies. Its multisensory approach provides non-drug-based, non-invasive support tailored to each patient.

  • Mental health under pressure

In 2022, the consumption of psychotropic substances concerned nearly 3 million patients in Belgium, representing one quarter of the population.

  • 1 in 3 patients does not respond to treatment

Nearly one third of people suffering from major depression do not respond to conventional drug treatments.

  • The impact of institutional isolation

Institutionalization is accompanied by a particular vulnerability to depression, loneliness, and other associated disorders.

A solution supported by research

SAM Therapy relies on the collaboration of a committed scientific committee, which contributes to the evolution of the solution, its uses, and its protocols.

Testimonials: SAM in service of healthcare professionals

  • “SAM will make it possible to place the patient in real-life situations involving concrete tasks. For example, after being given a shopping list to memorize, the patient will have to find the different items in a supermarket, navigate the aisles, and then leave with the complete list. This type of real-life scenario makes it possible to detect potential disorders earlier, particularly memory or spatial orientation disorders, than with a simple paper-and-pencil task.”

  • “This device encourages interaction and collaboration within the group. It also helps avoid certain discomforts and the disorientation associated with virtual reality headsets, which is particularly important for adolescents with psychological vulnerabilities.”

Prof. Malgorzata KLASS, Professor of Motor Sciences and physiotherapist, ULB - RTBF
  • “It was in our home that inMersiv Technologies was able to develop this innovative device with complete confidence, a device that brings residents many moments of well-being. They can choose the content of their experience in consultation with the care staff: a walk in the forest, in the desert, or by the sea, for example. What matters most is that it reminds them of good memories, allows them to escape, and helps them regain a certain serenity. In our facility, it is mainly occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and our psychologist who use it during their sessions.”

Paul MATTON, director of the nursing and care home, La Cambre - Trends Tendances
  • “In principle, there is no doubt that implementing virtual reality in the care of older people is a plus. Because it can help not only to change the environment they are in and therefore improve their quality of life and how they feel, but also potentially to test them and see how they react in certain circumstances, and therefore sometimes even help with diagnosis.”

Dr. Jean-Christophe BIER, neurologist and co-head of the Integrated Memory Clinic (CIMe) - RTBF
  • “La Cambre has already observed, on a very small sample, that a short visit to SAM’s relaxation space could soothe a person in crisis within a few minutes without taking a tablet. The first results show that doses of neuroleptics and benzodiazepines - two medications with anxiolytic properties - can be reduced. We are on the right track.”

Michel Hanset, coordinating physician - Le Vif
  • “SAM can provide an elegant, drug-free solution to many psychological and behavioral disorders. It could also improve the quality of life of people who do not suffer from these disorders.”

Studies & research

  • Klass, M., et al. (2026).

An immersive virtual reality room to improve the well-being and engagement of nursing home residents with neurocognitive and psychological disorders: a feasibility study. Healthcare, 14(5), 588.

A first study, conducted in collaboration with the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles (H.U.B), evaluated the feasibility of SAM Therapy among residents with major neurocognitive disorders. The results show good tolerance of immersive environments and a positive impact on well-being and emotional state.

What if you could relive a precise moment?

A memory, a sensation, an emotion deeply rooted within you. SAM Therapy opens the door to an immersion capable of reactivating these moments: the serenity of a landscape, the warmth of a beach, the intensity of a memory. In this documentary, patients, caregivers, and physicians share their experiences and what this immersion changes for them.
